Organization.... it seems neverending, but it's probably one of the biggest secrets to success!

Sunday, March 6th, 2016

I believe that one of the biggest secrets to success in business, is being organized. If you fail to plan, you can plan to fail! If you're not organized, you will find yourself trying to do many things and not getting very many of them done.

I worked at my last office for almost 11 years. For 9 of those years I had one job. For the last 2 years, I had a different job. It took time at each job to figure out a schedule that worked and made sure that I completed everything I needed to. At my new office I am responsible for both of those previous jobs combined. So what I need to figure out is how to maintain both jobs on a schedule and get everything done.

One of the networking groups I attend talked about organization this past week. I think you really have to plan well and stick to your plan. Set timers and use that time specifically on what you have planned. I find that I jump from task to task as my phone rings, things pop up on my computer or into my mind and before I know it, I'm multi-tasking 7 different things.

I'm going to set a schedule for this week, which involves setting timers for specific things I need to get done and not allow myself to stray. If email isn't involved, I'll close outlook. If using the phone isn't involved, I'll turn off the volume for that allotted time. Anything I can do to minimize distractions will be a plus. Another part of my schedule is making sure I add all of the little things I want to get done, but never seem to have time for. When I told one person that I have a hard time finding time to write handwritten notes, she simply replied, put it on your schedule and do it. Even if it's only 15 minutes a week or twice a week. If you don't put it on your schedule, you won't do it. It sounds so simple. Now let's see if it is!

On another note: I think I've finally found a calendar that I believe is going to work for me. It's the Cozi Family Calendar. I like it because my husband and daughter can put it on their phone as well. They can see what I have on my calendar and can add their own things. Each person has their own color on the calendar, there's also a family color for events that pertain to all of us, like Mother's Day, haha! We also have shared grocery lists, reminders, messages, meal planner, and to do lists on the app. We downloaded it this past week and so far I love it. I'm considering upgrading to their paid version which is only $29.99 per year because I want the full monthly calendar on my phone instead of only the weekly. I just want to use it for another week before making the commitment. You can find out more information from their website, cozi.com.

Wish me luck as I plan my schedule for the week. I hope this will help you strategize a schedule for yourself as well. I'd love to hear any hints or tips you have for organization and please let me know if anyone uses Cozi family calendar. I'd love to hear tips for that as well. I hope everyone has a great week. It's a super busy one for me!

The Ins and Outs of Networking

I thought I'd talk about networking for those who are just starting out in their networking journey. And maybe, just maybe, someone who's a pro, will learn something or get a new idea. When you start out on your journey of networking, you're not sure what you're going to find. If you're like me, you're a little intimidated by everyone. They all seem so put together, so confident. It feels like everyone knows everyone else and you don't know anyone! You might sit there thinking "What the heck am I doing here?" But guess what? What you're feeling is 100% normal. And guess what else? We all felt the same way when we started networking. Because I'm one of those people who remembers feeling that way, I make it a point to go out of my way to talk to newbies, show them around, introduce them to others, give them networking advice. It's funny because the very first networking group I ever attended is the one that I'm currently the ...

Building Self-Discipline; Step 1

So how do we build self-discipline? First we figure out where we need self-discipline in our life. What are the areas in your life that you are struggling with? These are usually things you want to do, but for some reason you don't do them. Here are some ideas. Exercising, cooking meals, laundry, networking, de-cluttering, organizing your desk at work, yoga, meditation... the list could go on and on. Think about your list for a minute. Now, write down 2 or 3 things that you know you want to do, but keep putting off. These are things that you know would make an impact in your life. Now, next to each item, write down why you're not doing them AND why you want to do them. # selfdiscipline # lifehack # gettingstuffdone # liveyourbestlife  #jimrohnquote MW Copyright 2017

How would self discipline benefit you?

Picture your life a year from now if you actually accomplished the things on your list. How would this benefit your life? Seriously, just stop, close your eyes and imagine a year from now. For the past year you have ______. (Fill in the blank with something from your list.) # selfdiscipline # livingyourbestlife # lovingyourlife # happiness # workhard # besuccessful
