Unique Abilities

I went to a Vision Retreat last week and part of that was asking friends/family members and professional associates what your unique abilities are. What your good at, what your strengths are, what they seek you out for.

This was a fascinating task for me and I was overwhelmed by the responses.

Here were my top 7 responses (Themes)

1. Calming
2. Understanding
3. Trustworthy
4. Caring
5. Adviser - always listens and gives great advice.
6. Smart/logical/rational
7. Positive/upbeat

In the 20 responses I received back, those were the overwhelming responses from almost everyone, though everyone elaborated and said such amazing things that made me cry.

Calming was said more than anything else, that exact word and that completely surprised me. I hadn't thought of that word to describe myself before.

Here is my take on the top 7

1. Calming due to having 4 kids, my mind is used to the chaos, so I've learned how to be calm.
2. Understanding. I try to look at things from other people's point of view, however I'm no fool.
3. Trustworthy. I take this one very seriously. I don't cheat, I don't lie, I can't stand to see other's do those things. I am loyal to my family, friends, company, clients. I do what's best for others, even when it's not what benefits me.
4. Caring. I think this speaks for itself. I care about the people in my life deeply.
5. Adviser. I believe that all of the experiences I've had, have given me a perspective that resonates with others. I love sharing the lessons I've learned, good and bad, hoping that others will learn from them.
6. Smart/logical/rational. In my opinion, logical would be the biggest one of these three. I know they all apply, but I am a very logical person at the end of day.
7. Positive/upbeat. No one is positive/upbeat all of the time, but again living the past I've lived, has made me appreciate the life I have now. Here's a good quote that reminds me of that.

And that is what makes me positive/upbeat today.

If you haven't asked your friends/family the questions above, try it out. You might learn something new about yourself. It certainly helps you to self - reflect, gives you insight into how you're perceived, and will help you decide if you're reflecting your true intention.

As always, I'm open to questions and comments.

The Ins and Outs of Networking

I thought I'd talk about networking for those who are just starting out in their networking journey. And maybe, just maybe, someone who's a pro, will learn something or get a new idea. When you start out on your journey of networking, you're not sure what you're going to find. If you're like me, you're a little intimidated by everyone. They all seem so put together, so confident. It feels like everyone knows everyone else and you don't know anyone! You might sit there thinking "What the heck am I doing here?" But guess what? What you're feeling is 100% normal. And guess what else? We all felt the same way when we started networking. Because I'm one of those people who remembers feeling that way, I make it a point to go out of my way to talk to newbies, show them around, introduce them to others, give them networking advice. It's funny because the very first networking group I ever attended is the one that I'm currently the ...

How would self discipline benefit you?

Picture your life a year from now if you actually accomplished the things on your list. How would this benefit your life? Seriously, just stop, close your eyes and imagine a year from now. For the past year you have ______. (Fill in the blank with something from your list.) # selfdiscipline # livingyourbestlife # lovingyourlife # happiness # workhard # besuccessful

2016 Business Plan Ideas - Part 2

Here it is the first Monday of 2016. This morning at my networking group, we discussed what is your greatest need this year: Help me, Help you! We weren't talking about referrals or new clients - because the bottom line is that's something we all need. However, the overall consensus was that just about everyone wanted to get more organized and wanted advice on how to do that. Of course, this brought me back to my business plans for 2016. Time Block scheduling. I've tried unsuccessfully to set my calendar this way. I'll pick dates that I'm going to do a certain task and somehow they don't get done at that time. They'll usually get done that day - but the time varies based on what's going on in my day. I'm not quite sure how people stick to the time they say they're going to do something. If I walk into my office and have clients needing me, they're going to come before anything else. However, in thinking about this. I do like the idea of givi...
