Organization update

Sunday, April 10th, 2016

It's April 10th and I haven't posted anything about organization!

I've spent the past week working at home, resting and recovering post surgery which certainly made being organized much easier. I brought home everything I'd need the week before last. It certainly is easier to stay organized and keep track of what your doing when you stay in one place, instead of juggling each day of the week in various locations.

The systems I've put in place this year are working well for me. The apps, the calendar, the planning. I think one of the most important aspects for me is looking ahead on Sundays to see what my week will bring. Knowing what's coming up this week keeps me on track. It allows me to schedule the time that'll I have in my office according to what needs to get done, whether it's meeting with clients, or working on quotes. My original plan was to do this on Monday mornings, but by then I already have things I need to work on, so doing it on Sunday works much better for me.

I'm still not doing well with setting a timer. I'll eventually get that part down. Time isn't my friend. I don't have enough hours in the day for sure. Because I truly love what I do, I could sit down at the computer and work for 10 hours straight without realizing I've skipped lunch and really need to pee. lol. I know, I need to work on time blocking and using a timer. It's been on my list of goals all year. I'm going to try it. I promise.

Here's where I am.
Tasks I am doing regularly -

  • Spiral notebooks for to do lists, voicemail messages, notes from meetings.
  • Updating calendar on my phone (on Sunday's I sync with my outlook calendar)
  • Phone app - Journal to keep track of what I wear each day
  • Phone app - CamCard to keep track of business cards
  • Books - I'm reading the business motivation books I purchased. I also want to start listening to them on audio at some point, but I'm still learning French on CD anytime I'm in my car. I'm so surprised by how far I've come in that, I love it. (Sometimes I make my husband and kids suffer through it if they're in my car, haha)
  • Blog - I've kept up with writing in my blog at least once a week, sometimes more.
  • Online presence - I'm keeping up with my 3 professional FB pages that I manage or help manage on a daily basis, even if I have to schedule posts ahead of time. I'm trying to keep up with my twitter as well, since it's listed on my business cards and on our website. It's work to remember to post random things, but it's also kind of fun.
  • Email - I've always been good at keeping my emails under control which is why I haven't posted about it before. I have a bunch of folders for emails. When an email comes in, it either gets handled, deleted, or moved to a folder. There are only a few that I leave in my "in box" and flag because they need to be handled later this week or to remind myself that I'm waiting for something from someone. And I look through those daily to see if they can be taken care of or deleted. I love an empty email in-box.
  • Taking breaks - I'd say I'm doing 50/50 on this. There are days I remember to do this and days I completely forget.
  • Keeping my vision board, fresh in my mind.
Tasks I need to work on -

  • Block Scheduling.
  • Setting a timer.
  • Updating my vision board.
How are you doing with your goals three months into the year? Wishing you an organized and productive week ahead!

Building Self-Discipline; Step 1

So how do we build self-discipline? First we figure out where we need self-discipline in our life. What are the areas in your life that you are struggling with? These are usually things you want to do, but for some reason you don't do them. Here are some ideas. Exercising, cooking meals, laundry, networking, de-cluttering, organizing your desk at work, yoga, meditation... the list could go on and on. Think about your list for a minute. Now, write down 2 or 3 things that you know you want to do, but keep putting off. These are things that you know would make an impact in your life. Now, next to each item, write down why you're not doing them AND why you want to do them. # selfdiscipline # lifehack # gettingstuffdone # liveyourbestlife  #jimrohnquote MW Copyright 2017

The Ins and Outs of Networking

I thought I'd talk about networking for those who are just starting out in their networking journey. And maybe, just maybe, someone who's a pro, will learn something or get a new idea. When you start out on your journey of networking, you're not sure what you're going to find. If you're like me, you're a little intimidated by everyone. They all seem so put together, so confident. It feels like everyone knows everyone else and you don't know anyone! You might sit there thinking "What the heck am I doing here?" But guess what? What you're feeling is 100% normal. And guess what else? We all felt the same way when we started networking. Because I'm one of those people who remembers feeling that way, I make it a point to go out of my way to talk to newbies, show them around, introduce them to others, give them networking advice. It's funny because the very first networking group I ever attended is the one that I'm currently the

How would self discipline benefit you?

Picture your life a year from now if you actually accomplished the things on your list. How would this benefit your life? Seriously, just stop, close your eyes and imagine a year from now. For the past year you have ______. (Fill in the blank with something from your list.) # selfdiscipline # livingyourbestlife # lovingyourlife # happiness # workhard # besuccessful
